My kids love macaroni and cheese. They ask for it all the time. So instead of resorting to the boxed mac and cheese at the store, I use this recipe for a quick, easy weeknight dinner that my kids devour! I hope you enjoy it to.
Cook 1 box of Jovial Brand Gluten Free Pasta – we love the fusilli or elbows!
While that is cooking heat 1 TBLS of Butter and 1 TBLS of Gluten Free flour in a saucepan. I find that Bobs 1 to 1 Gluten Free flour works well with this recipe. Once those are mixed and bubbling together I add in:
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp tumeric (my kids never know that turmeric is in here but turmeric gives it that “yellow” color of the boxed stuff)
- 1 cup of shredded cheese
- 1/2 cup of bone broth
- 1/2 cup of cream
- salt to taste
I combine these at low heat and then let cook at a very low heat for about 5-7 minutes, stirring from time to time. Then I drain my pasta, put it in a bowl and pour my cheese sauce over it. I mix it and voila, mac and Cheese made the old school homemade way in not too much time and with only 2 dirty pots! If I am going to make this in advance, I cover it and keep it on warm in my oven until serving. If you leave it uncovered or leave it on warm for too long, your top layer will dry out. So keep your eye on it. On last suggestion, top this with crumbled pasture raised bacon, Canadian bacon or ham to make it even better!
