So I have to admit… currently, I am not a very crafty mom. At my current time of life, I am not great at arts and crafts, DIY and things that require patience combined with fine motor skills. I wish that I was and this is why I admit that this state of incompetency is current but not everlasting. I will work on it one day, however until then, I wanted to offer full disclosure. 🙂
That said, I like to come up with crafty, fun activities that my kids can enjoy and I can try to participate. That desire to do a fun craft combined with my love of nature and my adoration of inspiring nature quotes led us to our wood – quote project.
Ahead of time, I researched some adventure, nature quotes and made a list. You can find these all over and if your kids are old enough they can find them themselves. Once I had my list, my kids and I went out found some wood that had a smooth surface (you can do this with rocks, sticks, bark, logs, etc and as long as it has a somewhat smooth surface it will work. Have some fun with some sandpaper if you wish too and let the kids surface the wood to their desired level.)
We sat down with the wood, quotes, and some painting markers (or whatever you want to use to write on your nature backgrounds) and had fun writing our quotes on the wood. We kept it pretty basic and wrote the quotes, but you could color the backgrounds, add pictures, and express however you like on your nature surfaces.
Now our wood quotes are part of our house decor. We read them everyday. They bring nature and inspiration into our days and I hope they help program our subconscious, without us even really knowing it, by repeatedly reading them everyday!
