I love turmeric and I am always looking for ways to add it to our diets. I used to think that the flavor was too strong for us to enjoy, but since using it regularly, I find that it can be blended in fairly easily. And, it is worth it to try since turmeric is often sought after for its anti-inflammatory properties. My kids don’t know that there is often a sprinkle of turmeric in every rice, pasta, and quinoa dish that they eat and I am always testing our various turmeric supplements and recipes. One of my favorite winter turmeric recipes is a simple, creamy, turmeric tea. It is warming and soothing on a cool winter evening. If you want to sip on it sometime, this is how I make it.
I mix the following in a small pan and heat to my desired temperature. It normally only takes a couple of minutes.
1/2 cup coconut milk
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
1/2 inch piece of ginger (sliced) or you can use powder if you prefer
A shake of cinnamon and a shake of cardamon if you have it
Once these are heated to a nice, warm, tea temperature, I remove them from the stove and let them sit for a couple of minutes. Next you can either strain out the ginger slices or blend the tea to smooth. Add honey to taste and enjoy. (As a side note, some people blend the coconut milk, turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, cardamon mixture prior to heating, if that works better for their blender.)
Enjoy!
